Extended Access Appointments

We are increasing the number of appointments available for you to see a GP in the early mornings, evenings or at weekends across West Leicestershire.

Depending on your individual circumstances and symptoms, we may offer you an ‘extended access’ appointment. Please note however, that these appointments will not be in your usual GP practice and may not be with one of your usual GPs or nurses.

Depending on the reason for your appointment, and if you are in agreement, it may be suitable for you to see an Advanced Nurse Practitioner, instead of a GP.

The clinician you see will be able to access relevant sections of your medical notes and will communicate what has happened during your appointment back to your usual GP practice.

These appointments will be available at the following locations:

  • Loughborough Urgent Care Centre at Loughborough Community Hospital
  • Coalville Community Hospital
  • Hinckley and Bosworth Community Hospital

If you would like to know more please speak to a member of practice staff.

Your appointment

However you choose to contact us, we may offer you a consultation:

  • face to face at the surgery
  • on a video call

Appointments by phone, video call or by text or email can be more flexible and often means you get help sooner.

Home visits

Whilst we encourage our patients to come to the surgery, where we have the proper equipment and facilities available, we do appreciate this is not always possible. if a home visit is deemed necessaary, the clinician will refer you to the Acute Home Visiting Service.

How it works

  1. A patient or their representative contacts the surgery for a GP telephone consultation.
  2. The GP assesses the patient's needs and determines if a home visit is appropriate.
  3. A healthcare professional, such as a GP or a paramedic, visits the patient's home to provide care.
  4. The service may provide ongoing care and support, as needed

Benefits:

Reduced Hospital Admissions: Helps prevent unnecessary hospital stays by providing care at home.

Improved Patient Experience: Patients receive care in a familiar environment with the support of their family and home setting.

Increased GP Capacity: By handling urgent care needs, the service frees up GPs to focus on other primary care priorities.
